Conditions of Directory Entry

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF DIRECTORY ENTRY (renewable annually)

The Directory includes sections listing Individual Counsellors, Counselling Supervisors, Counselling Agencies, and Training Providers. The printed Directory is published annually early in the year – all hard copy entry applications must be received no later than the end of September. Details in the online Directory can be updated by the relevant member at any time. SAC reserve the right to check or condense, rearrange or abbreviate the information provided, at its discretion. (If you use abbreviations, please give their meaning. We may leave them out if their meaning or relevance to counselling is not clear.) SAC reserves the right to refuse entry.

Directory Entry Criteria:
All Directory Entry applicants must meet the Practitioner Criteria:
• Proof of current Professional Indemnity Insurance. (We require a copy of a current certificate of insurance for our records. This can be emailed but if posted please do not send originals as we cannot return these.)
• Proof of current membership of a Professional Counselling/Therapy Body.
• Engagement in supervision as per the guidelines of their professional body

Then A or B
A. Current membership on the Professional Standards Authority Accreditation Register – supply registration number and professional body through which accreditation has been gained and state which title they are entitled to use (eg MBACP).
B. Have advanced beyond ‘student’ status and be regarded as eligible to practise by a member of a Professional Standards Authority recognised professional body for Counsellors or Therapists. Responsibility of knowing whether they are regarded as eligible to practise rests with the applicant and they must provide documentary proof of this on first application (eg certificates) and state which title they are entitled to use (eg UKCP trainee therapist).

Practitioner Fee £35
• Practitioners will pay one fee which includes membership of SAC and one entry in the Directory (hard copy and web versions).
• Practitioners include Counsellors, Supervisors (see point 2. below) Agencies (see point 3. below) and Training Providers (see point 4. below). (Students are not eligible.) All eligible entrants to the Directory pay the Practitioner fee plus any additional fees applicable to their status.

2. Individual Counsellors and Counselling Supervisors
Applicants for the sections Individual Counsellors and Counselling Supervisors will be ‘Practitioners’ and as such must abide by the criteria set out in point 1. If an Individual Counsellor or Supervisor requires just one Directory Entry, then they simply pay the Practitioner Fee of £35.
If extra entries are required in either of these categories, there will be a further fee of £20 per additional entry.

Additional Entries £20
• If extra entries are required in either the Individual Counsellor or Counselling
Supervisor categories there will be a further fee of £20 per entry.

3. Counselling Agencies
Counselling Agencies must consist of two or more qualified practitioners (meeting Practitioner Criteria) offering a counselling service and the Agency must provide:
• A named contact person who will be a ‘practitioner’ under our terms and conditions (see 1). This named person will have full membership rights and receive information, updates, AGM and other meeting updates on behalf of the Agency.
• Details of any counsellors who are students on placement.
• Updates of staff changes and turnover.
• A current copy of their Agency Insurance Certificate. (If there is no agency insurance policy for counselling activities, please provide individual policies for each practitioner and list all practitioners.)
• Details of supervision arrangement for each counsellor listed within the Agency
NB: Agencies using counselling skills can subscribe as Associate members but are not permitted to advertise in the Directory. If you are a qualified counsellor working in a different role in this setting you may subscribe as a Practitioner and need to download the appropriate application form from the website. Alternatively contact Sharon (details below) and request a form be posted to you.

Counselling Agencies Fees:
Practitioner Fee £35 + Agency Fee £30 = £65
This entitles the Agency to one Directory entry (Hard Copy and Web) in the
Agencies section and one in the Individual Counsellors or Supervisors section
(ie The Agency’s ‘Named Person’).

4. Training Providers
Applications for the section on Training Providers must be from Agencies or Individuals who provide counselling and/or personal development training and meet the criteria for ‘Practitioner’ (see point 1. above). Payment entitles Training Providers to advertise approved training events throughout the year.

Training Provider Fees:

  • Practitioner Fee £35 + Training Provider Fee £50 = £85
This entitles the Training provider to one Directory entry (Hard Copy) in the Training
Provider section and multiple entries in the CPD section of the web Directory.
  • Practitioner Fee £35 + Agency Fee £30 + Training Provider Fee £50 = £115
This entitles the Training provider to one Directory entry (Hard Copy) in the
Training Provider section, and entry in the Agency section and multiple entries in
the CPD section of the web Directory.
  • Practitioner Fee £35 + One Additional Counsellor/Supervisor entry
    £20 + Agency Fee £30 + Training Provider Fee £50 = £135
This entitles the Training provider to one Directory entry (Hard Copy) in the
Training Provider section, an additional entry in the Counsellor/Supervisor section
and entry in the Agency section and multiple entries in the CPD section of the
    web Directory.

5. Accuracy / Liability
It is the entrant’s responsibility to check and update their details online. For the hard copy directory they will be sent a proof copy of their entry to check before the Directory goes to print. If help is needed to do this please contact Sharon (see details below) no later than 30 November. SAC does not accept liability for any loss or damage caused by omission, error or inaccuracy.

6. Distribution
Copies of the printed Directory are distributed free to all SAC members as well as to statutory and voluntary agencies and other places that the public visit to seek this type of information.

7. Clarification
All existing Practitioners have a window of an opportunity each January to pay for Counselling / Supervisor / Agency or Training Provider status at 100% of published fee and get the full 12 months value out of Website and Hard Copy advertising. If they opt not to become a Training Provider in January, but at a later date during the year, they will be required to pay 100% fee, even up to the December following. Those joining SAC as practitioners for the first time may do so in any of the four quarters of the year (as described below) at a pro-rata rate, on the understanding that
their renewal will be due in the following January for the full amount. Having joined SAC once (for however long) they will thereafter not be eligible for ‘first time’ Practitioner / Agency or Training Provider status but must pay the full fee at whatever time they decide to take up extra entries/advertising on the Website.

Therefore:
Quarter 1: 1 January – 31 March
Everyone pays 100% fees and renews the following January. Training Providers can
purchase 12 months website and hard copy directory advertising for £50.
Quarter 2: 1 April – 30 June
Those joining SAC as Practitioners (Counsellors/Supervisors/Agencies/Training
Providers) for the first time in this period pay 75% of fees. Existing members adding
extra entries, upgrading to Agency or Training Provider, pay 100% (or wait until the
following January).
Quarter 3: 1 July – 30 September
Those joining SAC as Practitioners (Counsellors/Supervisors/Agencies/Training
Providers) for the first time in this period pay 50% of fees. Existing members adding
extra entries, upgrading to Agency or Training Provider, pay 100% (or wait until the
following January).
Quarter 4: 1 October – 31 December
Those joining SAC as Practitioners (Counsellors/Supervisors/Agencies/Training
Providers) for the first time in this period pay 25% of fees. Existing members adding
extra entries, upgrading to Agency or Training Provider, pay 100% (or wait until the
following January).
